The first set of photos presented here are of scenes in the 39+ square feet of scenery that I prepared for judging for the NMRA
Achievment Program Scenery certificate. Some of the photos were taken during the scenery development process.
Scenery Area 2 is a composite of three smaller scenery areas numbers 2, 3, and 4 and stretches along the south wall of the layout room. This area connects on the left end with Scenery Area 1
(my NMRA AP Scenery certificate area)
Section 2 is located along the double track main line of the SVL layout and encompasses the Pine Street Industrial Area. In this industrial area are two major industries each having direct access to sidings. The Lehman Freight building also has a truck loading dock. The second building the Raub Supply Company has a long loading dock with an extension to the west. The tree between the two buildings is where William Penn signed the paperwork to create the state of Pennsylvania (i.e. Penn's woods)
Section 3 is located in the SW corner of the layout and is not as large as Section 1. The near edge of Section 3 is about 34-inches
back from the edge of the fascia. Which means that some of the details shown in the photos below are not as viewable from the floor of the
layout room as they are in the photos below. But it was an area in which I experimented with new scenery techniques which I did not have
to employ in Scenery Area 1. Among there were.
In general I am pleased with how each of these scenery techniques worked and each provided a good learning experience and notes for
improving the techniques involved.
The content of Section 3 is based around 2 Walthers kits that I fell in love with and wanted to incorporate in the layout somewhere. The
siding track in this area is a truncated branch line that used to run from Williamsport PA up to Lock Haven PA. The line was deactivated many
years ago and the stub end of it near Williamsport proved a nice siding for a small business i.e. the PA Farm Coop store. With limited
parking area the Antiques Barn seemed like a reasonable non-siding business to install here.
In the front area of Scenery Section 3 is a fenced in cow pasture which was great fun to construct and populate.
